the official names file (http://bygfoot.sf.net/revisions/official_names) should get extended with inofficial->official name mappings for the two australian definitions (the teams in the upper leagues only, of course, and only the well-known ones (if there are any ;-))).

Ill do some reading and look how others have done it. I do have both official and unofficial on the twiki so its just a matter of converting it to your map thingy.

it's a lot simpler than you think. that 'official_names' file looks like this:

Code: Select all

League: england
    London: Arsenal
    Aston: Aston Villa
    Birmingham: Birmingham City
    Blackburn: Blackburn Rovers
    Bolton: Bolton Wanderers
    Charlton: Charlton Athletic
left hand side: the inofficial name (exactly the way it is in the definition files); right hand side: official name. easy.

there is such a section for most countries in the file. you just add one for the aussie teams (cut-n-paste-n-search-n-replace would be the poweruser-emacs way ;-))

almost exactly. but we only need pairs when the unofficial and official names are different, so i had to remove a few lines.

thanks!
