I think it would be a good idea for the cvs version to use its own home dir instead of sharing with the latest release. It's a bit of a nuisance if you have a saved game in the 1.9 release and it's mixed in with all your cvs testing games. When newer files get copied into the home dir from the cvs version it can cause inconsistencies with the release version. Also, sometimes you need to clear out the home dir when testing cvs stuff and you have to be careful or else it's bye-bye saved games
I think the cvs version should use a fixed location, say $HOME/.bygfoot-cvs, and that official versions should be "tweaked" at the time of release to use a version-specific location.
