FA cup 2005 and penalties

Post by vector »

Well I thought it was a good match, my dad was an avid utd supporter and I think would have been proud if he were still around to watch. It contained some great football mainly by the young lads running Utd's wings. Once again maybe the better side on the day didnt take home the spoils but how true is this of life. Is it wrong for a side who know they are "out gunned" to sit back and play spider tactics. Sometimes relying on luck is a good strategy.
Once again the debate rages over penalty solutions to drawn matches.
ohh dear. Lets see, if Arsenal had been given a penalty during the match and it turned out to be the only goal would we still cry over spilt milk.
The bottom line is this we need an end result.
the fans have to leave at a certain time to maintain logistics, like train and bus times etc. You cant have super athletes playing until they drop. Its not healthy. You cant keep extending the time or workign on golden goals silly ness. If no one could score in 90 odd minutes and then the "this is your last chance" extra time wasn't enough to stir up something magical then I guess the other team deserves it. Weather they look the better team or not is irrelevant, the rule is: who scores the most in the allotted time wins.
Athleticism, skill and tactics were unable to secure a result. The fact that it then falls to some luck, nerves, instinct and deep down raw inner strength I believe is as fair an indicator as anything else.

Or maybe we should all sit in our comfy armchairs and push vote buttons to determine "who should be voted out" like some reality TV show.

Arsenal. you were lucky.
Utd you played the better game and the world saw and knows it. Your fans should be proud.
I thank you both for a good evenings viewing.
and like the good loyal dog that I am .. Ill stick to Spurs ;)

but think about it:
if spurs were in the cup final and had been out played by, arsenal say, for the whole game and it was 0-0 after extra time would you like it if you didnt get a fair chance to win the game on penalties?
if it was liverpool i would certainly want the game to go onto penalties.
i wasnt sure from your post whether you liked penalty shoot outs or not but i certainly think they are a good fair way to decide a drawn game.
oh well i hope liverpool win the champions league without the need for penalties because that would be just to tense for me
will you be watching the game on wednesday?
Haven't u people ever heard of closing a goddam door?
