1.7: feature freeze

Post by gyboth »

as i'm in the process of creating 1.9 almost from scratch, i won't have the time to implement any new features in the 1.7 branch any more.

geovah or arnaudus or anybody else interested in new features and coding may of course add new features for a while (until we agree on a global feature freeze so that we can concentrate on bugfixes and have a 1.8 branch at last).

you are welcome to request new features, it's only that they probably won't end up in 1.7 but in 1.9 (but don't count on them being in 1.9.0).

What about internationalization freeze?

Post by arnaudus »

If version 1.7 is frozen now, what about translation? Is it possible to get a "final" bygfoot.pot file?

The main interest to freeze all char strings is to provide a solid basis for building packages for various distributions. Lots of people never use CVS or even compile their softwares... and, for example, the last package for debian is 1.4.2-1 (stable)! (1.6.3-1 in unstable).

Moreover, it should be cool to have a simple system to report very minor translation bugs. I don't know exactly the usual way to proceed...

i've come to the conclusion that minor changes are still allowed, e.g. updating the translations. i'm going to send around the current pot file just before releasing.

well, 1.7 is mostly frozen. the only changes i'm still planning are adding a country file for chile (already done), making stadium events less harsh (very minor change) and finally the translation update.

debian package policy isn't my business. if i release a new minor version, 1.6.4, say, then 1.6.3 gets deleted from the testing branch and 1.6.4 is in unstable. so if i don't wait three or five months between minor releases, they never get into stable, although minor releases in the Bygfoot stable branch only contain bugfixes. i can't influence such things.

simplest would be to add a forum here, i believe.

  • the pot file is updated. get it from here or via the 'Contribute' section at the homepage. geovah or arnaudus could translate the few new strings in the french po file.
  • i've added the country file for chile. TODO: remove the official team names (this is a must before the new release).
  • stadium events are a lot less severe now, both in capacity and money loss.
