My thoughts on translating news and lg_commentary files

Post by gunnar »

For me as a translator I find that translating the news and lg_commentary files is hard. Especially if you want to give the user a similar experience as in English.

Therefore I've looked into a system that can translate those 2 xml files by using po files instead. I have a proof of concept ready for this, and it seems to work.

This has a big draw back though: You won't be able to add specific cases in your language as described in http://bygfoot.sourceforge.net/forum/vi ... 1891#p1891 On the other hand, does anybody do that or does everyone use the English lg_commentary or news file, copy it and translate line per line?
Also a second draw back will be that the po files don't know about the current news files, so the translations won't be automatically carried over. It will be a tedious task the first time.

What do you think about this, should I go ahead with this?

Danish is only using the English text, so it is a go ahead for that language.

I would personally prefer po-files.
