Post by Oki »

Leagues
Campeonato Brasileiro
1 classified to Copa Libertadores e Copa Sul-Americana
2,3 and 4 is classified to Copa Libertadores
5,6,7,8,9,10,11 is classified to Copa Sul-Americana
19, 20, 21, 22 is relegated

Second Division - Série B
The eight better teams go to play-offs divided in two groups

Group 1
1 team
3 team
5 team
7 team

Group 2
2 team
4 team
6 team
8 team

The better four teams go to last play-off and the two finalists go to first division. The worst six teams are relegated.

Cups

Copa do Brasil
This cup is a play-offs cup, and begin with 64 teams. The main problem is because in this cup. The teams are invited by Federation, and so, we need to use some rule.

I think to use this rule for choose teams:
22 teams of First Division
20 teams of Second Division
6 teams of Third Division
6 teams of Fourth Division
5 teams of Fifth Division
5 teams of Sixth Division

The winner of Copa do Brasil go to Copa Libertadores

Copa Libertadores
First phase
12 teams play qualifying and winners go to second phase (play-off home/away)

Second phase
32 teams divided in eight groups.
The two better teams of each group go to play-offs.

I couldn't find what rule they use to choose the 24 teams. The best five teams of first brazilian division go to Copa Libertadoras directly to second phase. The champion of Copa do Brasil go to Copa Libertadoras directly to second phase.

I'm searching for the exact number of teams by contry.

Copa Sul Americana
35 teams

12 from brazil
6 from Argentina
2 from Bolívia, Chile, Colômbia, Equador, Paraguai, Peru, Uruguai e Venezuela
The last champion

The teams are divided in 6 groups.

Group 1 is composed by brazil
Group 2 is composed by argentina
Group 3 is composed by venezuela, bolivia and last champion
Group 4 is composed by chile, peru
Group 5 is composed by colombia, ecuador
Group 6 is composed by paraguay, uruguay

The brazilians is divided in 4 groups with 3 teams and the winners go to next phase.
The fourth best teams of argentina group go to next phase.

About rules for Copa Libertadores

Post by Oki »

Hi gyözö,
Ok, i'll try to explain with more details the rules for Copa Libertadores. :-)

Copa Libertadores have three phases.

Phase 1 - Qualifying
12 teams plays (home/away) matches and the best six go to Phase 2.

Phase 2 - Copa Libertadores
32 teams
8 groups
(home/away)
The best two teams in each group go to next phase

I really can't find the exactly rule used for choose the 26 other teams. I search in conmebol website and some brazilian websites, but i couldn't find an answer.

Well, the rules for Brazilian teams are:
The winner of Copa do Brazil go to Copa Libertadores;
The best 4 teams in Brasileirão(division 1) go to Copa Libertadores;
But, i can't find what is the rules for another south america countries.

Phase 3 - Finals
(home/away) matches with 16 best teams.

My suggestion to solve problems with Phase 2 of Copa Libertadores is to implement only the Phase 2 and 3 of Copa Libertadores and use a rule based on table for 2005 using the randon function to select teams by country.
Brazil - 5 teams
Argentina - 5 teams
Colombia - 4 teams
Mexico - 3 teams
Ecuador - 3 teams
Paraguay - 2 teams
Venezuela - 2 teams
Chile - 2 teams
Uruguay - 2 teams
Bolivia - 2 teams
Peru - 2 teams

I hope this rule could be adopted by bygfoot, i'll try to search more about Copa Libertadores, but the South American rules are so crazy as madness. The president of conmebol need to learn a little bit of organisation with europeans.
